The Good News
The gospel of Jesus Christ is the best news any human being can hear. Gospel simply means good news. It tells us that God our Creator has provided a Saviour for us in his Son Jesus Christ. We need not face eternal sorrow because we have rejected and rebelled against God but we may have in its place eternal happiness through the Saviour Jesus Christ. How can this be? Because Jesus Christ came as a man, he was both God and man in the one person, and came to live a perfect life and to suffer and die on behalf of sinful people, throughout the world. This is the central message of the Bible from beginning to end.
We must in one sense firstly hear some bad news, that in God’s sight all of us are sinners. This means that we have all in one way or another broken God’s law for us as his creatures. It does not mean we are all as bad as we possibly can be, but it does mean we are cut off from God, and we have no hope by ourselves of being reunited with God. Until we are willing to admit we have sinned and seek God’s forgiveness we will never turn to the Saviour.
How may we obtain this salvation – this eternal life – by simply turning back to God, seeking his forgiveness and believing in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the only Saviour, and giving ourselves to him. Jesus Christ said to many of his disciples when he called them, “Follow me.” That is what he says to us today, in other words – trust me, obey me, be with me.
No one who has truly come to know Jesus Christ has ever been disappointed. He delivers us from eternal sorrow, gives us eternal life and is a faithful and gracious Saviour for all that we face in this life here below.
